The touch screen and smart features also make it easy for anyone to make milk drinks. It has the same 3 second heat up thermal coil as the Bambino Plus does, and the auto milk steaming works just as well. The Barista Touch is essentially a Smart Grinder Pro and the heating element and auto milk steaming of the Bambino Plus built into one machine with a touch screen and the ability to save pre-set settings. Additionally, the Café Roma only has a 1000w thermobloc, and it is both slow to start, and heat stability is an issue. Unfortunately, it doesn’t really have any features that would put it above say, an entry De’Longhi machine, but the Café Roma might cost more. The Breville Café Roma is a manual pressurized portafilter system, or in other words, it is the cheapest, most entry level machine Breville makes. Also, the Dose Control Pro grinder might be acceptable for beginners, but people generally want a better grinder before they get bored of the machine. Unfortunately, I’d much rather get the grinder and expresso machine separate, and often, depending on where you live, you might be able to get a dose control pro and Infuser separately cheaper than the Barista Express. The dose control grinder isn’t great, but it is acceptable at the price point Barista Expresses are usually sold at. The Barista Express is pretty much just a Dose Control pro grinder and an Infuser built into one. The infuser is a pretty great entry level machine at its price. Additionally, the PID is now adjustable, and there is a pressure gauge to monitor extraction. However, instead of manual dial controls, it has programmable single and double shot buttons. I’d probably consider the Duo Temp Pro to be the cheapest machine that does “proper” espresso with an unpressurized portafilter.įor approximately ~$200 more, the Infuser has the same heating element as the Duo Temp Pro. The heating element isn’t great, as it is a 1600w thermal coil, but it does have a PID (unfortunately not adjustable), and an auto purge function. Around me, it often goes on sale and is extremely cheap, plus, it comes with a full compliment of accessories like a steaming jug, tamper, and full set of 1 and 2 short single and double walled baskets. I think the Breville Duo Temp Pro is weirdly underrated. For ~$100 or so more, the Bambino Plus is a good upgrade over the base Bambino. However, it does lose the hot water function of the base Bambino. Additionally, it has an auto milk steaming function and auto purge. First of all, it comes with a set of unpressurized portafilters in the box (at least in some markets). Finally, with a 3 second start up time, the Bambino is probably also the fastest way to get hot water.įor ~$100 or so over the base Bambino, the Bambino Plus gets a few additional features. The machine can also support an unpressurized portafilter if you decide to swap it out. Overall, its affordable price, low profile, and fast startup time puts it ahead of most of the affordable competition. Additionally, it has an (albeit unadjustable) PID system, something that most other cheap pressurized portafilter systems do not have. Breville’s advantage here is its Thermojet system, that allows for a really quick 3 second set up time. The base Bambino is a simple small profile low end machine, designed to compete against cheap pressurized portafilter machines. Considering that other dual boiler machines are typically significantly more expensive, the Breville Dual Boiler is probably the best machine in its class at its price point. It also has a large aftermarket community, with plenty of mods such as flow control. Depending on where you are, it is probably the cheapest dual boiler espresso machine you can get, and it includes features that you would like such as adjustable PID, pressure gauge and full sized 58mm portafilter. Probably Breville’s best machine, the Breville Dual Boiler is an affordable dual boiler machine that has probably every single feature an enthusiast might need. I personally think a good case could be made for buying every single machine in the S, A and B tiers, but I’d say skip everything below that.
